‘Unplugged’ By Rebecca West

Christel and Robert, owners of Ridgebck Lodge, generously invited Nick and I to spend a couple of days at their gorgeous oasis on the beautiful Kingston Peninsula. Known for their unique and eye catching ‘Dream Domes’ we quickly came to discover that there is much more offered at Ridgeback Lodge. They set us up in their Deer Run Cabin, and it certainly didn’t disappoint! I must admit that in the days leading up to our getaway, I feared that I may be a bit bored. I had read that their motto was “unplugged”, meaning no TV or internet and sadly this worried me. Nick quickly snapped me back to reality and reminded me that this was also a “kid free” getaway! I think that at this point you could have set us up in a dumpster and as long as it was quiet… we would have been just fine.

As we arrived we were greeted by Robert who quickly gave us (I mean Nick) the rundown on how to get the Wood Fired Hot Tub running! We then settled into our beautiful cabin for some R&R. Clean, cozy and modern with not a detail missed! In the winter months this cabin is rented to one couple only but in the warmer months it can be combined with the three Stargazer Domes located close by, so that a group of 3 couples can enjoy a getaway together! We will definitely be doing this!

I was reminded while away that I really love hanging out with Nick. With no distractions we were able to be our old selves, instead of mom and dad. And let me tell you, that is priceless. On the other hand, my woodsman of a husband realized how much he hates city life and wants to live off the land. He was quickly reminded that this is not an option.

So, thank you Robert and Christel for your hospitality and an amazing experience. Forcing us to unplug and allowing us to reconnect was exactly what we needed!
