Reiki, I know we just met but I love you already! | By Lucenda Richard

This post is presented in partnership with The Spa 654 Club

I had my very first Reiki session this week. You might be thinking: “What the heck is Reiki?!” By definition, Reiki is a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being. It was one of the most life changing experiences I’ve had, so naturally I needed to write about it. You’re thinking “seriously?!” And I’m telling you-Seriously! ( any Greys fans in the house?)

If you’re anything like me, you’re intrigued after reading that definition. As an overtired, under rested mom, business owner, and self proclaimed socialite (hilarious) whose morning, the day of the session, consisted of a screaming child who refused to have her diaper changed, who rolled through her poop in her crib and then proceeded to pee on the mattress, a million and one things on my to do list, and about 4 hours of sleep. You can understand just how frazzled I was going into the appointment.

I was running late (story of my life lately) and swiftly opened the door to The Spa 654 Club here in Fredericton located on bishop drive. Upon opening the door I got a whiff of the most inviting and delish smell (Note to self, ask what it is next time I’m in!) Sitting at the desk was a vibrant and smiling woman, who was well dressed and seemed genuinely happy to greet me at the door (her name is Maureen, she is simply a doll and the owner of The Spa 654 Club.) We got to chatting about her being a new grandmother and me having a one year old little girl, it was comfortable. She took me on a, as she called it, “ten second tour” of the spa facility. She showed me a mani/pedi room, a hair salon with sitting area to enjoy a beverage, (they even have beer, baileys and wine, that’s right I said WINE for purchase!) laser hair removal, massage therapy and as I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, Reiki.

I was then greeted with a big smile and warm hug by the lovely Tina. She explained to me that she would be doing lots of swaying with her arms as a way to help push out the negative energy and replace it with positive energy and how each and every person can have a totally different experience and feel different things from feeling weighed down, to tingling ( she used much more technical detail, I’m just paraphrasing). My experience started with Tina dimming the lights, putting on some soothing music, getting me comfy cozy on the table, then she draped me with a blanket, I closed my eyes and the real reiki experience began. I remember my mind was racing about appointments, meetings with people, my dirty house, some recent disappointments. You name it, I was thinking about it, that anxiety I talked about in my last post, there it was. I could feel her hands above me, over different spots of my body, at first I felt a great weight all over and as the session progressed I felt almost weightless, my hands and feet were tingling, almost like little sparks dancing on my skin. She spoke of each of my chakras and what colours they illuminate. How a white light was coursing through my body and that it was healing all of the negative wounds and replacing them with light and positivity. Suddenly, I was experiencing an overwhelming sense of calm. I haven’t felt a calm like that in months. The experience ended with Tina sharing with me that my throat chakra (which is blue) was closed when I started the experience and it was now open to “Say what you mean, mean what you say” to speak clearly and in a way that people will understand what I am trying to get across. She shared a few different details of things she picked up on during the session, and told me to use my intution and follow my fear. ( which reminds me of another experience I had, but that’s for another time.)

Following my Reiki session, I took full advantage of the quiet sitting space for a few moments with a glass of white. I made my way back out to the waiting area and chatted with Maureen, who snapped a few photos of me indulging.#momlife. I was even lucky enough to snag a time slot for a pedicure. I’m taking it as a sign from the universe. I left feeling euphoric, de stressed and over all peaceful.

Meet Lucenda

I’m Lucenda, or as my friends like to call me, Lue. I’m a mother to a strong willed, hilarious, and sweet little girl named Scarlett. I own/manage, alongside my wonderful husband (of nearly 5 years) Ryan, Rocky Road Auto LTD. You may have seen us advertised on this wonderful site.

I’m a sassy, country music-loving, karaoke singing, booty dancing kinda gal. I’m the friend you have fun with; you know the one who makes you have the extra glass of wine(or Jager bomb) or that piece of cake! I’m a strong believer that laughter is the best medicine.  I’ve been blessed with the most incredible family and friends a person could ever dream of (that’s not a cliché, I wholeheartedly believe it) My beliefs are simple: you get what you give, being positive will absolutely change your life for the better (especially in the bad times), kindness is contagious, and we could all stand to catch a bit more kindness. I tell it as it is, most times people appreciate it, other times it can get me into some pretty awkward situations. I watch too much TV, eat my fair share of delicious foods, love yoga, and drink too much wine. I’d love to say I’m a Pinterest mom, but I’d be full-on lying to you, unless you count Pinterest fails!  I love to strike up random conversations with just about anyone. So if you ever recognize me somewhere, stop and say hi! I feel like the world needs a little more random conversation, a lot more love, and way less negativity.

So that’s me, what you see is what you get.

Likes:  Wine. (White, Red, bottle, boxed or bagged. I’m not picky), Laughing until it hurts, Stock car Racing.

Dislikes: Rudeness, A variety of vegetables (I still eat them, but only the ones I like), Fakeness
