How To Be A Goal Digger | By Live Well / Bien Vivre

Anybody else make some over the top, potentially unachievable New Year’s Resolutions? Trying to make instant changes to our lifelong habits is hard!  Staying motivated can be difficult for anyone…throw some children into the mix and we all know how that can go down. Did you know that 80% of us halt our New Year, New You changes by February?  Health Coach Veronique is here to help us stay on track!

1. K. I. S. S.

Sure, you can find someone to make out with…it probably wouldn’t hurt, but how about following the Keep It Simple Silly philosophy! Avoid unnecessary complexities – instead of trying to cook organic food from scratch daily, how about trying a new recipe from an old cookbook once a month. 

2. Find your motivators

Think about the things that motivate you…the things that make you feel good.  For me, it is in the simple acts – going for a walk or spending some time in nature can increase my feelings of productivity and decrease my anxiety.  Try a variety of activities and see what sticks. Taking action – even when it may seem small – creates energy and motivation!

3. Do what you LOVE!

I loathe running. I have tried to be a runner.  You know the ones…the effortless sprinters, the gazelle gliders, the ones that enjoy it so much that they trek around in the snow in -30 weather. ALIENS.   We will never stick with something long term if we don’t enjoy it.  If you want to move more, find activities that you like…dancing, nature hikes, Sweating to the Oldies.  Embrace yourself when working on your goal.

4. Who’s with me?

Making healthy changes can be overwhelming, especially if you are doing it alone.  Think about the type of people you have to support you throughout the process.  I read a quote the other day that stuck with me: “Stay close to the people who feel like sunshine.”  You know those people…the ones that bring warmth and light into your life.  They are the little sparks of extra motivation!

5. Reward yourself!

Who doesn’t appreciate a little self-reward? Treating yo-self can effectively enhance your motivation.  Make a new playlist of songs that motivate you; take a bubble bath; read a book; binge on a Netflix show; go window shopping; lock yourself in the bathroom and enjoy a hot cup of coffee!
