Meet Emily , our first Featured Mom!

I am so lucky to have a sister , who just happens to be insanely talented. Victoria is not just skilled in taking gorgeous photos but she has a unique ability to make each and every client who comes into her studio feel comfortable and deserving of feeling beautiful! Meet Emily, our very first Featured Mom ! Emily walked into Victoria’s studio In Burton, NB this morning looking very frazzled! . Ok ok, we may have played this up a bit but lets me honest, we’ve all been here. Exhausted, frustrated, lonely, self conscious, drained and the thought of getting a shower and putting “real” clothes on seems equivalent to building the Great Wall of China.

Emily is a mom to 3 beautiful children, Jaden (14), Isla (3) and Truman (11 months). She is also an extremely talented freelance makeup artist (Makeup by Emily ). I met Emily through a mutual friend of ours a while back and was immediately drawn to her humor, honesty and confidence. There is not much Emily wont say. Its refreshing to hear another mom be so open about the good, the bad and the ugly truth of motherhood. Of course Emily is naturally beautiful, but like most of us sometimes its hard to see ourselves like we once did. Emily needed a ” boost” and I knew just the person to give it to her! Emily, you are simply stunning! Thanks so much Victoria West, you never disappoint!

I asked Emily to answer a few questions about motherhood and this is what she had to say…

How would you describe your “parenting style “?

Loving….even when I want to kill them.

At this moment , what is your biggest parenting struggle ?

Having a teen, a threenager, and an infant all at the same time. They all need me so much, in such different ways. I’m having to be a completely different type of mom for each of them and it’s exhausting.

What does your everyday look like?

Everyday is the same but different. I spend my time cooking, cleaning, and keeping everyone alive. Sprinkle in some park time, snuggles and melt downs….and repeat the next day.

What would your ideal day look like ?

No offense to my kids, but they would be no where near my perfect day. In fact neither would my husband, lol! It would be me all alone…in bed with Netflix, wine and Dimitris takeout.

What is the grossest/ embarrassing thing your child has done in public ?

My kids have certainly puked and pooped all up and down the eastern sea board…but it’s the times they’re rude that embarrass me the most…cuz that makes me look bad, lol. And sometimes my 3 year old decides to drop the F bomb at the park…that’s always cute.

What is the worst part of being a mom?

It’s the lack of time to myself. It’s hard to imagine if u don’t have kids that even going to the bathroom by yourself is next to impossible…but it’s true. It’s like every time I think I have just one moment to myself, one of my kids needs something. It really wares on you

What is the best part of being a mom?

Seeing everything through their eyes. Being as excited to meet Santa at the mall as they are…that kind of thing. And of course the snuggles!! I could kiss and hug them forever

Do you find time for yourself ? If so how ?

I really don’t. That’s something I’ll have to work on because even if I did make a point to carve out “me” time, I’d feel so guilty about it. I don’t know why. Hopefully it will be easier once they get a little older (wishful thinking)

What’s the biggest change you have seen in yourself since becoming a mom?

It takes a lot less to entertain me now. I used to always feel the need to be out doing something fun but now by the time I have any free time in the evening I’m as happy as a clam to just watch The Real Housewives and sip wine. I’m no longer restless.

What do you mourn most about your pre -baby life?

So many things lol! But mostly I miss feeling pretty. I just don’t bother much with my appearance anymore because it’s pointless. My kid will smear boogers on me and spit up on me…I seriously forget that I’m a woman sometimes…not just a mom robot…haha
