UNB Kin Kids Program!

This post is presented in partnership with UNB’s Kin Kids Program

As a mom of two, I’m always looking for local programs to keep the kids busy, involved and having fun! We were thrilled when UNB’s Kin Kids program contacted us to help spread the word about their wonderful program! So naturally, we had to check it out! With kids in tow, it was off to UNB we went. The program leaders held a private class just for us and with the aid of the muli-talented Victoria West we were able to capture what a truly great program it is! Interactive, back to basics and most of all, really fun! We will definitely all be signing up for the fall classes and hope to see many of you there too!

KIN Kids is a program that instills the value of physical activity in children ages 5-12 through guided active play.  Our goal is to for positive physical activity habits early on in life by associating enjoyment with physical activity.  Health and/or fitness are obtained using the Frequency, Engagement, and Duration (FED) training principle, which revolves around the fact that people do what they enjoy, so enjoyment is key.  The program focuses on having fun while being physically active and engaging all participants regardless of skill level or ability.  The program fosters a positive environment for social interaction as well as a setting where children can feel comfortable and confident.

KIN Kids believes in the POWER OF PLAY and the influence that strong leaders can have on a child’s life.  The SUCCESS of KIN Kids is in its VOLUNTEER LEADERS, as their enthusiasm and desire to be active participants in the program is what fosters a positive environment for the participants.  Because of our low ratio we can provide individual attention to those who need it, while allowing the children to interact with both adults and other children in a relaxed, open environment.

KIN Kids runs twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays) during the academic year for one hour each session (5:30-6:30pm).  Participants may be different each semester and some may only attend one session a week.  KIN Kids activities take place at the Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium.  In the fall, when the weather is nice, activities may take place outdoors.  In the winter, activities take place in the main gym.
